Forty-five deserving organisations across Yorkshire were praised by His Royal Highness The Duke of York, KG, for their public spiritedness and tireless dedication to projects which benefit society at The Duke of York’s Community Initiative Awards.
His Royal Highness created the Community Initiative Awards to acknowledge the work of community-based projects in Yorkshire and to reward those projects that add real value, that are owned and developed by the people they serve and that provide an inspiration to others.
Since its inception, The Duke of York’s Community Initiative has presented awards to over 250 organisations at its annual ceremony.
This year’s Awards Ceremony was held in East Yorkshire at The Spa Bridlington on Thursday 10 October. His Royal Highness The Duke of York presented the awards to representatives from each community initiative before taking time to meet and chat to each about their work.
The 2013 awards were marked by the special presentation of the Innovation Funds Awards which went to five organisations who are past Community Initiative award holders. The funded awards have been offered to allow a range of innovative projects to be brought to fruition. The recipients were…
This year’s Outstanding Leadership Award was presented to Julie Marshall of Barnsley Beacon and the Community Initiative also recognised the hard work and commitment of four of its own volunteers; Gay Webb, Dorothy and Dennis Hawkshaw and John Isles.
